Sheriff Donny Youngblood congratulates 2009 Wasco SAL award winners.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Activities League is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was formed to offer activities for the youth of Kern County as an alternative to gangs and drugs. Through regular contact with law enforcement as mentors, coaches and positive role models, SAL works as a deterrant to a criminal lifestyle and promotes leadership and goal setting through a variety of activities. The KCSO SAL programs emphasize participation in organized sports, community service, academic enrichment, leadership training, and expand the world through field trips to museums and college campuses.

SAL is a private organization, which is not funded by the County of Kern. SAL relies on members of law enforcement and the community to volunteer time to mentor and work with the kids who participate. Through donations from the community and annual fund raisers, SAL is able to sustain this valuable program as a viable crime prevention tool in Kern County.
